While the nation was mourning the death of a 23-year-old medical student who was gang raped two weeks ago in the Indian capital, a 42-year-old woman was murdered Saturday after being allegedly raped in the eastern state of West Bengal, reported local media Monday.
The Indo-Asian News Service quoted police as saying on Sunday the victim’s husband was also assaulted and critically injured after the rapists forced him to drink acid.
Police said one of the attackers, who worked in a same brick kiln of the couple, has been arrested and probe is on to determine if the woman was raped before being killed, according to the report.
The incident occurred Saturday when the couple, working at a brick kiln in Barasat in North 24-Parganas district of West Bengal, was returning home. The woman died on the way to the hospital.
