The American aircraft carrier USS John Stennis has passed the Strait of Hormuz and entered the Persian Gulf after patrolling the Arabian Sea together with a guided missile cruiser USS Mobile Bay, the US Navy reports.
The warship is currently docked in Saudi Arabia’s port of Jebel Ali.
On December 28, the USS John Stennis is going to take part in 6-day naval drills in the Strait of Hormuz and the nearby Gulf of Oman. Iran’s Navy has announced it will stage live-fire exercises in the same region to practise sealing off the strait, which accounts for over 20% of the world’s oil shipments.
Meanwhile, the amphibious assault ship USS Peleliu has entered the Oman’s port of Salalah on the Arabian Sea.
